The foundation of volunteer centre

Within the project “We Care We Act” - Boosting initiatives for strengthening inclusiveness and pluralism of the society towards persons with disabilities and their families the representatives of Humanitarian organisation “Child’s heart” held the meeting with volunteer representatives, as well as with the project partners in the premises of Association for helping people with mental disability in Jagodina on February the 20th 2014.

Since the specific goal of the project was to strengthen the capacities of people who will be working with people with disabilities (volunteers, students), and one of the activities is to strengthen the capacities of students of Faculty of Pedagogy and Higher Medical School, we wish to accomplish the task and establish the volunteer centre which would function in all three municipalities (Paracin, Cuprija and Jagodina). The meeting was attended by all the project partners, two representatives of volunteers, from Jagodina and Cuprija, who expressed the will to get involved more actively and launch the centre.

Clear guidelines on how to start the activities of the centre, what would be the first steps, before they officially establish the centre were given to the volunteers on the meeting.

Games without borders in Cuprija

It is our pleasure to share with our associates and friends the news that the final manifestation “Games without borders” within the project “We care, we act” was held on March, the 29th 2014. The games were held in sports hall “Ada” in Ćuprija whose representatives have met our request and lent us the premises for this manifestation. 40 competitors were divided in 4 teams:

  •  The 1st team- six children from primary school “Momčilo Popović Ozren” from Paraćin and four children included in activities of association “Centar OSI”
  •  >The 2nd team- six children from primary school “Đura Jakšić” from Paraćin and four children included in activities of association “Centar OSI”
  •  The 3rd team- six children from primary school “Vuk Karadžić” from Ćuprija and four children included in activities of association “Nebesko srce”
  •  The 4th team- six children from primary school “Boško Đuričić” from Jagodina and four children included in activities of Associtation for helping people with mental disability

The manifestation would not be so qualitative without the contribution of volunteers from all three towns, who had earlier attended seminars within the project. Some of them were a part of the team and helped the participants, some were passing requisites, and others helped with serving food and drinks or stood in crowd with fans encouraging audience to cheer their favourite teams.

After the presentation of all teams, the contest began. There were 6 games, the atmosphere was very positive, the competitors gave their best, as well as they tried to support their teammates with disabilities together with fans who were cheering from the public. Two judges had the task to take care about games’ regularity, to signal start of each game and to enter points in the table.  Volunteers who were in teams were all the time with competitors, helped and cheered them. When all the games were finished, the judges summed the points and competitors and audience, accompanied by a band, were singing the song “If you are happy” which brought them together and gave them cue to later friendship. After summing points, the host of ceremony declared the winners and after that all the teams have got diplomas, medals and awards. At the end of the manifestation, audience was invited to get down to the hall floor to join participants, help themselves with food and drink and spend time together enjoying music.

Hereby we want to thank all people of good will, who supported this inclusive manifestation, as well as TV crews which filmed, and later broadcasted very interesting videos on their TV stations.

Round table in Cuprija

Okrugli sto 021

The final activity of the project “We care, we act”, Round Table, was held on April, the 17th 2014 in the hall of Centre for Family Placement and Adoption in Ćuprija. The activity was prepared in close cooperation of partners on the project: “Nebesko srce” from Ćuprija, “Asspociation for helping people with mental disability” from Jagodina and “Centar OSI” from Paraćin with extensive support of experts from Humanitarian Organisation “Dečje srce”.

The goal of the round table was the presentation of current position of children with disabilities and their families regarding social inclusion, education and exercising basic rights. At the round table, the ways of moving barriers which children with disabilities and their parents encounter when they try to exercise their rights in everyday life were presented. Also, one of the aims was creating joint action plan together with partners on the project.

During the presentation, project results were underlined to all attendees. These results refer to great interest of all target groups in educations, because of what the number of participants at seminars was significantly greater than planned. At the same time, this shows how much activities like these are important for children with disabilities and their families and how much influence they have on their positive presentation and social inclusion. Also, the great number of volunteers has engaged themselves in activities of these organisations after education. They have now everyday activities with children and young people with disabilities, so they give contribution to better work of organisations.

“Decje srce” has suggested active involvement of associates within the program Tourism for persons with disabilities, where partners from all three municipalities would be actively involved in creating local offer, transferring information to their members and transforming themselves, in some way, in stations which embrace beneficiaries who visit their municipality. It was also agreed that all participants work together on licensing which follows all services, in such way they are first being structured and later licensed.

At the end of the round table, it was agreed that next meeting with partners on the project will take place on April, the 30th 2014 where joint action plan will be finalized.
